CHAIR'S REPORT 2010/2011
ACAMH North Wales & Merseyside Branch Annual General Meeting: 19 October 2011
Education Centre, Alder Hey Children's Hospital, Eaton Road, Liverpool L12 2AP

We are now approaching our 3rd birthday since our re-emergence as an ACAMH branch in 2009, since the "small steps" we achieved in our first two years we have now started to walk with more confidence. Over the past 12 months our committee has expanded to include one professor, Simon Gowers, and one child psychiatry specialist trainee, Ashish Kumar; although we have had to say goodbye to Theresa McCardle as she has moved on to consultant pastures new.
The small but dedicated committee continues to strive to organize & deliver high quality local training at affordable prices, with 3 successful & well attended twilight events being held at Alder Hey Education Centre on the themes of Childhood Eating disorders, Learning from working with Refugee & Asylum Seeking Families & Developing services for children with ASD. Each of which combined theoretical & clinical aspects in a well received manner. Together with the early evening events we delivered a half day training on the Impact of Parental Personality Disorder, once again at Alder Hey, the highlight of which was some very powerful presentations by service users, describing their own experiences of mental health services and its effect on their roles as mothers.
We have been ably & enthusiastically supported in our endeavours by a number of local CAMHS professionals, who although unable to commit to being committee members have made huge contributions as co-organisers of events, for this past year we would like to give special thanks to Julia Nelki & Michael Gopfert for their invaluable support to our branch.
Our plans for 2011/12 include the forthcoming twilight event on Transitions, together with which we are rather adventurously planning for full day events in May 2012 & Autumn 2012 on Childhood Anxiety Disorders & Attachment Theory & its Implications for Clinical Practice.
We would like to thank Ingrid King, Martin Pratt & especially Karyn Ambridge at St Saviour's House for their tireless support as we continue on our developmental path, gaining in confidence but being careful not to run before we can walk!!

Dr Warren Levine
