ANNUAL BRANCH REPORT (presented to the AGM 2007)
by Dr Gerry Doyle, Chair, North East Branch

The North East Branch continues to host academic events with the aim of bringing local expertise to as broad an audience as possible. In Autumn 2006 we held an afternoon meeting looking at the Mental Health of Looked After Children. This was well attended and delegate feedback was very positive, but unfortunately we had to cancel our next academic event. We had planned a morning entitled Multicultural issues in CAMHS but insufficient numbers applied to cover the costs. This is the first time in many years we have had to cancel and we wonder if successive cut backs to Study Leave budgets are stopping people booking places at academic meetings.

We are working in partnership with Newcastle University's Academic CAMHS to present monthly lunchtime seminars. We do not charge for these and they are proving popular.

In July 2007 we will host a full day event (incorporating our AGM) exploring Anorexia Nervosa and Obesity. Half of our speakers are local and we will also be welcoming speakers from London and Leeds. I am looking forward to an informative and entertaining day.

The North East branch remains small and we will have to attract new members if we are to continue hosting good quality academic meetings. I would like to thank all the committee members for their support but especially our secretary Rev Jean Skinner who retires this year. We are, as every year, greatly indebted to the ACAMH admin team, in particular Rosemary Mackenzie and Marie-Christine Rieder, without whose help and support none of this would be possible.
