ANNUAL BRANCH REPORT (presented to the AGM 2007)
by Art O'Malley, Chair, North West Branch

Similar to other ACAMH branches, the North West has been affected this year by the squeeze on CPD budgets and study leave; in fact, in some trusts I know of, there has been a complete moratorium on funding for external training events. This is having a detrimental effect on attempts to meet individuals' training needs and contributed in part to the postponement of our two planned events - Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Focus on Adolescents. The other factor it must be said, that contributed to their postponement was that both topics had been covered recently by other branches; however with the conscious move across all ACAMH branches towards building closer relationships with each other, sharing speakers and hosting joint events, this is likely to be less of an issue.

The decision not to hold events is difficult as the Branch continuously strives to provide quality study days which are relevant and amenable to those working within the disciplines. We rely on a healthy combination of ideas and inspiration from our Branch committee members, supported by hard work and dedication from the ACAMH admin staff to realise these events. However, our committee is now down to just a handful of very busy professionals who are juggling many other activities and, in order to put together a successful programme, we really need more input and more attendees!

In the North West Branch, there are 107 ACAMH members .... it would be great if we could encourage more of you to become involved with our annual programme. It is extremely worthwhile and rewarding to see a conference take fruition and of so much benefit to professionals who would otherwise not have the occasion or resources to learn of the most up-to-date research and developments. There are many opportunities to network not only with other ACAMH members and professionals, but also with those engaged with other similar organisations with which we are considering hosting future joint events - and the committee has been working hard promoting ACAMH amongst these associations. So, if you can spare some time or if you have ideas on conference topics or even if you can help us raise awareness of our events more widely, we would be very pleased to hear from you.
